Epson’s Expression ET-2750, which sat in a review pile for at least three months before I bothered opening the box. The Epson ET-2750 is one of Epson’s Eco tank printers, which costs a lot up front at around $500, but includes enough ink for over 6500 black and white or 5200 full color printed pages. Despite the high upfront cost, the total cost of ownership is probably a lot less than the $60 printer that needs a new cartridge every six pages. Canon has a similar line of printers that don’t hide the cost with their PIXMA line. Whichever you choose, you’ll be saving money and the environment in the long run if you need to print often.
I just purchased the Epson EcoTank ET-2750 printer based on the EcoTank feature and the auto 2-sided printing capability advertised on the box and on Epson’s webpage. After setting up the printer, I was anxious to test the automatic 2-sided printing capability and sent an 8-page document to the printer. Out came 8 pages, not 4 as expected. I went to the Epson support web site and searched the FAQ. Another customer asked how to enable the automatic 2-sided printing feature
Connectivity for the ET-2750 includes USB 2.0, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a direct peer-to-peer connection to a computer or mobile device via Wi-Fi Direct. As is not uncommon with home-based inkjets, it lacks Ethernet connectivity. The ET-2750 supports printing from the Epson iPrint app for iOS or Android, and Epson Email Print and Epson Remote Print, which both allow users to automatically print to the ET-2750 by sending it documents via email. Epson gives you the option of having an email address assigned to the printer during the setup process, which you can change to an address more to your liking. I tested the printer over a USB connection, with its driver installed on a computer running Windows.
With graphics, some backgrounds looked slightly dull, and several exhibited mild banding (a regular pattern of faint striations), but they should still be good enough for PowerPoint printouts and the like. For photos, there was some loss of detail in bright areas in a couple of prints, and a monochrome image showed a tint, but prints were generally about the quality you would expect from drugstore prints. The output should be fine for home use, provided you’re not a photo enthusiast.
